About the Subject

GP100 provides the groundwork for understanding all elements of the process of working in the Australian health care sector, discussing common challenges that are faced including employment hurdles, regulatory challenges, and the difficulties of the AMC Examination. Importantly, the course sets out strategies for overcoming these barriers and provides the IMG with guidance and a framework to navigate these challenges.

The Essentials for Working as a Doctor in Australia (GP100) Course is prepared and delivered by Consultant-Level (Senior Medical Officer) doctors of IME's general practice division. These doctors are Australian-trained specialist medical practitioners with a minimum of 10-years clinical experience in the Australian health sector.

    This course consists of 3 Online Modules and provides the groundwork for understanding all elements of the process of working in the Australian health care sector, discusses common challenges that are faced including employment hurdles, regulatory challenges, and the difficulties of the AMC Examination.

      Subject Content

      The overall objective of the Essentials for Working as a Doctor in Australia (GP100) Course is to provide international medical graduates (IMGs) with the relevant information, knowledge and strategies needed to effectively transition into Australian medical practice and ultimately, to attain specialty Fellowship.

      Module 1 – Essential Steps for Working as Doctor in Australia

      This module provides information on the essential steps that are needed to be completed in order to work as a doctor in Australia.  It provides in-depth information on regulatory barriers, legislative conditions and specific barriers faced by International Medical Graduates, including strategies and tips necessary to navigate these hurdles.

      Module 2 – Introduction to the Australian Medical Council Exam (AMC Exam)

      This introductory module orientates doctors to the Australian Medical Council Exam, provides learning strategies and tips, and makes reference to further reading and study that is available through separate IME AMC Exam Preparation Courses and Programs.

      Module 3 – Introduction to the Pre-Employment Structured Clinical Interview (PESCI)

      This introductory module orientates doctors to the Pre-Employment Structured Clinical Interview (PESCI), provides learning strategies and tips, and makes reference to further reading and study. 

        Modules

        Candidates access the above theory modules via IME's dedicated student portal. This Online Learning Management System also provides the student with various tools and advanced e-learning strategies to facilitate their learning.

          The Essentials for Working as a Doctor in Australia Course (GP100) course is designed for international medical graduates who wish to pursue a future career in medicine in Australia. To be eligible to enrol in this program, candidates must have completed, or be in the process of completing an internationally recognised medical degree.
