About The Subject

IM102 aims to help candidates further develop their clinical reasoning capacities through problem based learning and application of knowledge to practice exams. Specific aims include development of capacities in:

  • Clinical reasoning rather than rote knowledge of theory
  • Ability to distinguish the most probable diagnosis from a list of plausible alternatives
  • Critical appraisal of images of X-rays, electrocardiograms (ECGs), CT scans, clinical photographs and other visual material
  • Recognition and management of life threatening illness
  • Professional practice in the context of Australian healthcare
  • Data collection, interpretation, and synthesis, and finally;
  • Principles for development of management plans including education and health promotion, counselling, psychotherapy, pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy, and other interventions

    Subject Structure

    The Advanced Strategies for the AMC MCQ Exam Preparation Course (IM102) is completed online over 5-10 weeks under the guidance of the academic faculty. Candidates work through each trial exam and undergo further study in problem-based learning format under the guidance and support of an expert academic faculty.

      Subject Content

      IMG102 includes 10 full-length MCQ Trial Exams (total of 1500 MCQ’s).

      Based on knowledge built from their primary medical degree candidates will answer questions from the domains of:

      • Adult Health -Medicine
      • Adult Health – Surgery
      • Women’s Health
      • Child Health
      • Mental Health
      • Population Health & Ethics

      These questions are reasoned within the context of the Australian health care system and candidates are directed by the academic faculty to further reading material that will consolidate knowledge in these areas.  By completing this course, candidates will gain knowledge in the areas of pathogenesis, clinical features, investigative findings, primary and differential diagnoses and management of disease.

        Modules

        Candidates access the above medicine interview theory modules via IME's dedicated student portal.  This Online Learning Management System also provides the student with various tools and advanced e-learning strategies to facilitate their learning.

          Entry requirements

          The AMC MCQ Exam Preparation Course (IM102) course is designed for international medical graduates who wish to pursue a future career in medicine in Australia. To be eligible to enrol in this program, candidates must have completed, or be in the process of completing an internationally recognised medical degree.             Course fees include access to the online modules and workshops for 365 days. Further fees apply for extensions and may only be granted on application. Please refer to our published refunds policy as a condition of enrolment.

            ENROL 

            Exit Examination

            The formal exit examination for this course consists of the Australian Medical Council AMC MCQ CAT examination.  This examination is conducted and operated independently through the Australian Medical Council.  The costs of this examination is not included in the course fees for IM102.

Minimum qualification standards include MBBS with specialist qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
