Virtual vs. In-Person PESCI at IME... Which Format is Right for You??

When an International Medical Graduate (IMG) is preparing to book the mandatory PESCI
interview, one of their first choices is whether to book a virtual online PESCI exam or a face to face PESCI assessment. The virtual and in-person formats will equally assess your suitability to become a GP in Australia, however one of the formats will better align with your personal preferences.

Virtual PESCI
The virtual PESCI is an online interview conducted over Zoom, which you can access remotely with a computer from anywhere in the world! This is our most popular option with IMGs.

Pros:
● You can sit the PESCI from anywhere in the world
● Some thrive better in a comfortable, familiar environment
● Cost-effective - there are no travel or accommodation costs associated with sitting a
virtual PESCI exam

● Convenient, accessible for all
● Plenty of exam dates available for virtual PESCIs

Cons:
● Adequate technology and a stable, reliable internet connection is a necessity
● Lacks the face to face interaction
● Potential for distractions

In-Person PESCI:
This PESCI uses the traditional format of a face-to-face assessment at our dedicated office on the Gold Coast, Australia. You will be able to interact with the role-player and panel chair directly.

Pros
● Good choice for IMGs who are not confident with technology or have unreliable internet
● Some thrive in a traditional assessment format
● No technology required

Cons
● Requires travel to the Gold Coast - flights and accommodation can be expensive
● Have to sit the PESCI exam in an unfamiliar environment
● Fewer PESCI exam dates available for in-person PESCIs
