About the Program

IME's UCAT Premier Program is a formal program for individuals seeking preparation for entry into undergraduate Medicine. The aim of the Program is to guide future doctors through their UCAT preparation, medical school applications and interview preparation. Courses are designed to be completed in conjunction with official UCAT preparation materials (which includes official full-length online UCAT exams and questions available in a question bank) to facilitate a complete preparation that will confer a distinct advantage to students. UCAT Premier is interactive, includes guided mentorship and offers the greatest chance of entering Medicine.

For the duration of their enrolment, program participants may make unlimited use of the Academic Faculty to have their questions answered via the IME online learning portal. Participants can ask questions about any aspect of their course, their general studies or their career and will receive a response within 24-hours (1 business day).

    Program Structure

The UCAT Premier Program is a formal and interactive one-year program that can be commenced at any time of the year. UCAT Premier assumes no prior knowledge and students can learn at their own pace. Students receive:

    • Enrolment into the five specialised on-demand UCAT lectures
    • Five formal personal UCAT tutorials with a member of the academic faculty
    • Unlimited informal personal tuition
    • Medical interview preparation

    Program Content

Comprised of a portfolio of UCAT preparation courses, the UCAT Premier Program provides students with unlimited support, private tuition, and exclusive services. The Program strives to develop higher-level complex reasoning and problem-solving skills in broad UCAT pre-requisite topic areas. The program consists of a total of 7 course subjects covering all sections of the UCAT and including Medicine Admissions Interview preparation.

The UCAT Tutorial course is exclusive to the UCAT Premier Program:

    • Unlimited Support and Assistance with Medical School Application: Students have unlimited online access to their UCAT tutor enabling them to workshop their approaches to questions, and to ask their tutor questions about the UCAT, application process, or medical admissions interview.

    • 5 x 1-hour Personal UCAT tutorials: Students receive exclusive formal personal tuition from a member of the IME Academic Faculty at our Gold Coast campus or remotely via Zoom. There are five interactive tutorials with an emphasis on critical reasoning that students need to complete prior to their UCAT exam. The tutorials focus on the five key domains of the UCAT exam and provide candidates with the chance to apply their developing skills under the guidance of their personal tutor. A full list of the program can be found below.

Tutorial 1: Approach to verbal reasoning and critical thinking.

Tutorial 2: Approach to decision making and rationale.

Tutorial 3: Methods of quantitative reasoning.

Tutorial 4: Approach to abstract reasoning and pattern analysis.

Tutorial 5: Insights in situational judgement.

The UCAT Verbal Reasoning course is written specifically for candidates preparing for the UCAT. The 2-hour, on-demand recorded lecture teaches students specific approaches to each of the question archetypes seen in this section of the exam.

Each style of question is addressed both theoretically and via representative UCAT practice questions. As well as techniques specific to the above style of questions, candidates are taught general strategies to approach their preparation and the exam.

The online module covers the following topics:

    • “True/False/Can’t Tell” questions
    • Incomplete statements
    • “According to the passage” questions
    • “Except” questions
    • “Most likely” questions

The UCAT Decision Making course is written specifically for candidates preparing for the UCAT. The 2-hour, on-demand recorded lecture teaches students the principles of deductive reasoning. These principles are applied in the context of the item types seen in this section of the UCAT.

Each style of question is addressed both theoretically and via representative UCAT practice questions. Students are shown how to progress a problem from known information to construct conclusions not immediately evident in the stimuli. As well as techniques specific to the above style of questions, candidates are taught general strategies to approach their preparation and the exam.

The online module covers the following topics:

    • Logical puzzles
    • Syllogisms
    • Information interpretation
    • Recognising assumptions
    • Venn diagrams
    • Probabilistic reasoning

The UCAT Quantitative Reasoning course is written specifically for candidates preparing for the UCAT. The 2-hour, on-demand recorded lecture teaches students specific approaches to each of the question archetypes seen in this section of the exam.

The online module covers the following topics:

    • Percentages – for example, calculating the percentage change. (increase/decrease) in cost prices/quantities or writing percentages as decimals/fractions.
    • Proportionality – direct proportionality, and inverse proportionality.
    • Rates – understanding rates and change in rate based on changes in parameters, especially flow and speed.
    • Averages – estimating and finding averages (mean, median, mode) of several values via use of tables, charts, and diagrams.

The UCAT Abstract Reasoning course is written specifically for candidates preparing for the UCAT. The 2-hour, on-demand recorded lecture teaches students to accurately identify patterns amongst abstract shapes. These principles are applied in the context of the different types of questions seen in this section of the UCAT.

The online module covers the following topics:

    • Type 1, Related Shapes – candidates are presented with two sets of shapes labelled “Set A” and “Set B”. They are then given a test shape and asked to decide whether the test shape belongs to Set A, Set B, or neither.
    • Type 2, Sequential Shapes – candidates are presented with a series of shapes. They are then asked to select the next shape in the series.
    • Type 3, Shapes & Statements – candidates are presented with a statement involving a group of shapes. They are then asked to determine which shape completes the statement.
    • Type 4, Shapes of Best Fit – candidates are presented with two sets of shapes labelled “Set A” and “Set B”. They are then asked to select which of the four response options belongs to Set A or Set B.

The UCAT Situational Judgement course is written specifically for candidates preparing for the UCAT. The 2-hour, on-demand recorded lecture provides candidates with an understanding of the values which underpin professional healthcare and represent the basis of assessment for this section.
